  • There are only three Japantown’s that remain in the US. San Francisco is home to one of the three.

  • The most damage caused by a large earthquake in 1906 wasn’t due to the earthquake itself, but the fires that were started by the earthquakes. 
  • The color on the Golden Gate Bridge was actually just the primer to coat the steel before painting on the actual color. The architect liked this color more than any of the other options so this color remained on the bridge.

  • Golden Gate Bridge 
    • A suspension bridge where the San Francisco channel meets the Pacific Ocean. The bridge is 1.7 miles long and only took four years to build in the 1930s.

  • Alcatraz Island 
    • Now a historic landmark, this abandoned prison went from a military prison to a site for protesting Native Americans. Today visitors can take tours.

  • Muir Woods National Monument 
    • Just north of San Francisco, the recreation is infamous for its beautiful redwood trees, hikes and creeks are abound.

  • Fisherman’s Wharf 
    • A neighborhood attraction near the waterfront of San Francisco Bay with streetcars that run through the area with plenty of restaurants, museums and shopping. 
    • This section of San Francisco runs from Van Ness Avenue east to Kearny Street. 
  • Golden Gate Park 
    • A 1,017 acre urban park with lakes, playgrounds, events, venues, and gardens.
